Loving God with ALL Your Heart, Soul, Mind, Strength
Jesus was asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
He replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
When I consider loving God with everything I’ve got – all that I am and all that I do – these four domains help me to focus on giving God my best! Loving God with all of me.
A few years ago, I began to reflect on being the best version of Dave DeVries that I can be so that I love God with all that I am. Even though I love Him imperfectly, I continue to focus on giving Him the best of who He has made me to be – including my heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Think about this question: Who are you when you are at your very best?
When you and I are aware of what it looks like to be our very best, we can more fully love God with all that He’s given us. For me, these eight domains of my life help me to focus on offering God my best:
For example, I know I’m at my best in the Devotional domain when I’m spending time alone with God each morning and praying specifically for the needs of others. In the Physical domain, I’m at my best when I’m exercising daily, limiting my carbs, and getting at least 7 hours of sleep. In the Mental domain, I’m at my best when I’m planning ahead, making weekly progress on my goals, and being coached.
When you are at your best in these domains, what do you “see” yourself doing and how often? Write down 1-3 things in each area. Then CIRCLE all the things you are not presently doing at your best. How can you make these activities your central priority?
Let’s make 2023 a year where we love God with all we’ve got – our very best!
Cheering you on!
